Meet Dr. Charles Jennings

Dr. Charles Jennings joined the faculty at San Joaquin Delta College in 1989, and was appointed to lead the Fine Arts Division as Dean from 2000-2005.  In 2005, until his retirement in 2017, he served as Dean of Student Learning and Assessment where he oversaw all transfer programs across the college.  Prior to working at Delta College, he taught music at all levels from elementary school through college and has served on the faculties of Santa Rosa Junior College and Modesto Junior College as well as having taught in the California public schools. He was formerly Director of Bands at Sonoma Valley High School and District Arts Facilitator for the Tamalpais Union High School District in Marin County.

Dr. Jennings is a graduate of Santa Rosa Junior College, California State University, Chico, and the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music.  He holds Associate in Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees and has done research in music education, publishing an exhaustive paper on applied music instruction in the California Community Colleges.

Dr. Jennings is a leader in arts education.  On several occasions, he has been asked to address the California Council of Music Teacher Education. In addition, he has served as President of both the Music Association of California Community Colleges and the Northern California Band Directors Association. He was a member of the Executive Board of the California Music Educators Association-Bay Section for four years. 

At San Joaquin Delta College, he served as President of the Management Senate, President of SJDC Teachers’ Association, and was a member of the Academic Senate.
